Bravely allowing worlds to collide to create something new of rare beauty: since 1904, this guiding principal has enabled perfume house Caron to repeatedly bring forth revolutionary new fragrances.

Its founders were a bold and spirited duo: Ernest Daltroff, whose passion for flowers led him to perfumery, and Félicie Wanpouille, who had a keen intuition for the zeitgeist. Their scents – spectacular, stylistically heterogeneous, defying easy description – became the signature of the Caron brand. In 1908, the fragrance powder «Pompon Poudre» launched a whole new genre of scent application. In 1911, the scandalous «Narcisse Noire» took Hollywood by storm and would become a veritable mythos. In 1934 Daltroff launched his «Pour un homme» the very first commercial men’s fragrance. The surprising combination of lavender and vanilla was an immediate success, and the fragrance is still on the market today in a virtually unchanged formulation.

An unlikely duo currently defines the creative development of the brand: cosmopolitan entrepreneur Ariane de Rothschild and talented, music-loving perfumer Jean Jacques. Contrast is also a defining feature of their work: when Jacques reinterpreted the classic «Tabac blond» (the first-ever leather fragrance, introduced in 1919) he added a chocolate accord. «Tabac Exquis» is at once transgressive and regressive – an extremely hedonistic fragrance for people of all kinds.
